One day auto insurance is a type of car insurance that is often used by people who are traveling. It effectively protects them for short periods of time against any loss incurred during the time of the coverage.

The question remains: why do people need one day auto insurance?
There are many situations where people feel they do not need to possess any car insurance. Primarily this happens when they simply do not use their car often, as is the case in many large cities (such as New York).
That being said, when using a car even for short periods of time, it is essential that the driver be protected by a type of insurance. This can save him or her the painful realization that they have incurred huge expenses if they are involved in a car accident.
In general, it can be said there are two situations where one may require a one day auto insurance policy.
The first case involves people who do not possess cars and only use one infrequently. This can be when renting a car, or when borrowing a friend’s car. In this case, getting one day auto insurance would be very appropriate.
In the second scenario, people simply do not want to spend money on huge premiums for long durations when they rarely use their cars. This can be the case when simply not using the car (as per the example above), or when possessing more than one car, in which the second car is not used frequently (i.e. when a teenage son goes to college, suddenly the car he used is no longer used).
In both situations, the wise course of action would be to enroll in a one day car insurance plan whenever the car is utilized instead of paying a yearly premium. That being said, if the car is used often, then using this type of car insurance is not the smartest choice.
