How To Set Up Your Site To Take Payments

The internet today has thousands or millions of shoppers. Payments over the internet have become common place for many people. How can you set up your site so you too can be part of this phenomenon?

So the big question is; how difficult and expensive is it to set up your web site with a payment processor?

It’s fairly simple really, and very affordable. The first time you do it you may sweat a little as everything you do for the first time is not easy, but you will soon learn. It is also most affordable for most people. So what do you need to do?

So how do you go about it?

First you need to get yourself a good web host.  Not a free one. Why not free? A free host makes you look unprofessional. They have their own advertising on your site. You need to be able to have your own advertising or no advertising so that you focus your customers on your product.

You will also need a payment processor, one that doesn’t cost the earth. Free preferably

One other thing you will need if you don’t have it already is software for creating your web pages. There are some very good free programs available on the internet.

Finding a good web hosting provider is your first job. Here are some things to look for:

Can you run a number of domains on the one account? The more the better. How many subdomains can you have? Over time you will want to promote more products. Each of these products would need a new domain or subdomain.

Can you use CGI and PHP scripts on your site? How much disk space do you get with this account? How many MySql databases are you permitted to run? These are some of the things you need to get answers to in choosing a web host.

Then we need our payment processors. We’ll just look at three. These are the most popular among internet marketers, they are also very affordable. Would free be cheap enough?

PayPal is the first of these. You can join PayPal for free and begin receiving payments. Their income comes from the small percentage they take when the sale is made. Their payment system uses email to pay to. It is wise to set up an email account just for payments. Your hosting account should allow you a number of email addresses.

2checkout.com is another secure payment processor you could use. Many internet marketers use this payment processor. Most will use all three. This one has a setup fee of $50.00 and then charges a small fee for each sale you make.

The last one we’ll look at is ClickBank. They sell many products for internet marketers and businesses. They organize and pay affiliates. It is free to join ClickBank as an affiliate. To become a seller you need to set up a separate account with a one off fee of $50 to set up the account and then a percentage of each sale.

Both PayPal and 2Checkout.com generate code for you to place in your site. You will need to place this code onto the body of your page where you want the button to appear. ClickBank generates a URL which you can link to a sales button.

As you can see, setting up your own e commerce web site is not real difficult and is very affordable.
