How would you define dust mites? What dangers do dust mites bring? Can dust mites harm my family and I in any way? The subject of dust mites creates many questions, and is a topic only few are educated on. These eight-legged creatures roam your house by the millions on a daily basis and yet you have little information about them. With the information provided below you will know more about dust mites and their habits.

Do Dust Mites Produce Waste? Of course. Like all living things that eat dust mites must defecate as well. They defecate everywhere they go, in your bed, couch, carpeting and more. Usually a dust mite defecates about 20 times a day! That is a lot of feces.

Eww Gross! Is All That Waste Harmful to Me? It is utterly gross to know that every night that warm comfy bed you lie down in is covered in feces and a combination of dead and alive dust mites. The feces of dust mites can actually trigger allergic reactions because the body might recognize a dust mite’s feces as a foreign substance, and attack it. This reaction works like any other reaction such as peanuts, crayfish, or pollen. Allergic reactions are not caused by the dust mites themselves but the feces they produce.

How would someone describe a Dust mite? A dust mite is a living, breathing creature, just like you and me. It breathes, eats, defecates, and reproduces like any other living thing. Over its lifetime a female dust mite will lay a total of 100 eggs, and die within 60 days while a male dust mite will die within one month.

What is the Reason we have an Allergic Reaction to Dust Mite Feces but Not our Own Feces? Dust mites feces contains and specific type of protein, which triggers the allergic reactions. Humans do not create this protein so human waste does not cause allergic reactions.

What are Some of the Things Which May be Experienced Due to an Allergic Reaction? A dust mite allergy is analogous to any other allergy such as pollen and dust. Sneezing, itching, and watery eyes are common effects of a dust mite allergy. Dust mite allergies are like having the common cold all the time, which often aggravates those with it because they are unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.

Dust mites cause a lot of problems, but exactly how big is a dust mite? A dust mite’s size is minuscule, at a total size of only half a millimeter. Dust mites create enormous problems for asthma and allergy suffers in comparison to their tiny stature.

With this article you are armed with information about what dust mites are, their habitat of choice, and their size. The data provided will hopefully helped you learn more about the millions of 8 legged creatures within your house.

What exactly are dust mites? Are they harmful to my health? My doctor said I might be allergic to dust mites what does this mean? Many questions are asked about dust mites, but many are left unanswered. Hopefully in this article I will be able to shed some light on this fairly mysterious topic.

Exactly what are Dust Mites? Although numerous people understand the existence of dust mites, only the select few know anything past that. Dust Mites are living creatures that eat, respire, and defecate, parallel to any other animal. Dust mites have eight legs due to their origins tracing back the arachnid or spider family. A dust mite’s lifespan is approximately thirty days for a male and sixty days for an impregnated female. During the entire span of a female’s life, a female dust mite will lay about one hundred eggs.

How Large is a Dust Mite? Not very large at all, in fact a dust mite is not visible to the human eye; the only way to view a dust mite is through a powerful magnifying glass or microscope. The approximated size of a dust mite is half a millimeter large.

How Many Are in My House and Where Do They Live? The exact amount of dust mites in your house is unknown however there are millions of dust mites in the typical mattress. They live in your pillow, sheets, blanket, couch, chair, carpets etc.

Why Do They Live In Bed and Couch of All Places? Dust mites enjoy places with a high amount of humidity and they receive that humidity when you perspire, breathe or drool. They also like to go into places where they are not exposed to the sun or vacuum cleaner. They dig down deep into the carpeting and grab onto the carpet fibers to prevent them from getting sucked out by a vacuum cleaner or beat out by the brushroll.

They Like Humidity But What Do They Like To Eat? You. Dust mites eat the dead skin humans shed daily. A days worth of shedded skin is enough for hundreds of thousands of dust mites. This is also why they enjoy living in the places mentioned earlier, because these are some of the most common places that a person sheds skin.

What is the Reason for calling them Dust Mites wouldn’t it Make More Sense to Call Them Skin Mites? A large percentage of dust consists of dead skin. The dust you find in the attic, basement, on top of your television set is mostly dead skin. For this reason dust mites feed on dust, because dust is mostly dead skin.

Many people know little to nothing about dust mites, but hopefully upon reading this you now know a little more than before about the creeping crawling dust mites.

by Kim Archer

In the U.S. there are over ten million people who are asthma sufferers, and many physicians regard asthma as an epidemic because it so widespread.

Exposure to noxious chemicals in the air and environmental pollution are usually held responsible for contributing to this disease. There is an increase in the number of people dying from asthma, mostly because the warning signs are being ignored.

During an asthma attack, the airways in the lungs will begin to swell and develop mucus secretions, and will eventually spasm. It becomes harder to breath as the airways become narrower. Breathlessness, coughing, wheezing, congestion, a dry mouth, fever and pain are all symptoms that can appear during an asthma attack.

An attack can be caused by almost anything. Upper respiratory infections, overexertion, poor nutrition, and stress are frequent causes, and allergies are the most typical trigger of an asthma attack.

Many attacks are a result of contact with irritants like pollen, gas odors, smoke, and exhaust fumes. Attacks can also be caused by foods like chocolate, dairy products, corn and peanuts. They can also be induced when you take antibiotics, tranquilizers or hormone therapy.

There are a number of herbal, mineral and vitamin supplements that can be used for the treatment of asthma. Vitamin B is the most significant of these. Not only can it decrease the severity of an attack but it preserves the biochemical equilibrium in your body.

If you use vitamins A and E in concert they collaborate to defend your lungs from pollution. As well, big dosages of Vitamin C are highly successful in combating asthma.

Another effective treatment for improving breathing and assisting with bronchial responses is gingko biloba. Odorless garlic is also a good alternative. The anti-inflammatory properties of this supplement decrease the risk of an asthma attack.

If you think you might have asthma, see your doctor right away to get tested. Until then, eat a diet high in protein with lots of vegetables and fruits and steer clear of known triggers.

An asthma attack can be a stressful experience, however there are always ways to defend against it and keep it from negatively impacting your life. If your doctor diagnoses you with asthma, ask questions and seek advice on what you ought to be doing.

It’s possible to avert an asthma attack, so there is no reason for it to keep you from the activities you enjoy. It can usually be contained even if it does slow you down for a while.

What do you say when someone asks if your asthma is under control? If asthma sufferers can manage attacks with an inhaler they often feel they have their asthma under control. But it isn’t just treating attacks when you have them; having true control over asthma is preventing them from ever occurring.

Many people experience both asthma and allergies. A good number of asthma sufferers know that particular triggers lead to an attack. As well, individuals with allergies have flare-ups in combination with specific triggers. Usually, these causes are inescapable, but you can frequently lessen them if you are aware of what they are.

Here are some ways that we can stop allergic reactions and asthma attacks before they start.

* Pay attention to the circumstances surrounding your asthma attacks. What do they have in common? Making a note of these things can help you determine what is causing the attacks, and that is the first step in avoiding them.

* Avoid common triggers such as smoke and strong fumes. These are some of the things that often instigate asthma attacks, so it is best to stay away from them as much as possible.

* If pollen and pollution levels are high, stay inside. Venturing outside in these conditions will invite problems.

* Get rid of dust in your home. Use an air purifier, and keep your home as clean as possible. Vacuuming with a regular vacuum cleaner may make things worse, though. Clean with water as much as possible. This traps the dust so that it can’t fly, keeping it out of your nose.

*Pets should be outside. Allergic reactions can be caused in those prone to them by pet hair, feathers, dander and even saliva. The homes of allergy sufferers need to be free of all pets except for maybe fish.

* Be vigilant about controlling mold. Mold flourishes in damp areas, so ensure that your house is kept dry. Try using a dehumidifier and check that moist corners of the house are well ventilated.

* Make sure that cockroaches feel as unwelcome as possible. These are frequent allergy and asthma triggers. Eliminating clutter and sources of food and water will prevent cockroaches from finding the things they need to survive in your home, and they will be forced to look elsewhere.

Most allergy and asthma sufferers have a crucial need for medication. Not only can it help to stop symptoms but it can help them to be avoided as well. In order to control these ailments effectively it is important to take control over the environmental triggers as well.

So if you have asthma, allergies, or both, try out these tips that will let you breathe easier.

The path that an asthmatic has to follow is long and arduous and it often involves taking a daily dose of medicine and having to also act in a manner that will help prevent the next asthma attack.

If you have ever had the misfortune of suffering from asthma, you know just how much you will have to do in order to find a proper treatment for your woes. Though, few are lucky enough to identify ways by which to eliminate their asthma related symptoms.

A combination of medicines and the holistic approach is the usual approach and in fact, no two asthmatics are using exactly the same form of treatment. A suitable option for the cure asthma is the natural solutions such as exercise.

Even aerobics is considered worthwhile as exercise for asthma. Walking and even dancing and in fact, are also good choices. So are other exercises that make your heart rate increase and which are sure to prove effective in combating asthma in a more natural way.

However, there are certain kinds of asthmatics that need to rely on those exercises for asthma in which a connection is established between the mind and body, and yoga is a prime example of what exercise for asthma should be as it allows both mind and body to relax and unite as one.

Home air purifiers are becoming an increasingly popular accessory in many modern homes, but unlike many of the knick-knacks or other haberdashery you might use to add personality to your home, an air purifier cleaner is something that can add something extra. Or rather, remove it. Whether you are an allergy or asthma sufferer, or just sensitive to the many pollutants that fill our modern atmosphere, a home air purifier can enrich your life by taking away those extra smells and particles from your home.

Invented as early as the nineteenth century, clean air purifiers have a long development behind them, with input from some of the world’s leading scientists, many of whom were allergy or asthma sufferers themselves, thus realising all to well the importance of a good air purifier cleaner. Home air purifiers combine the best in modern science and technology to create a range of products that are enormously effective and that will blend into your home unobtrusively.

The main purpose of your air home purifier is to remove the dust, pollen, mold, animal dander, smoke, and other harmful particles that exist in the air you breathe in your home. If you reduce even one third of these allergens you are doing your lungs and body a great favor.

A whole home air purifier is not considered a portable unit as it actually connects to the ducting system of your entire home. It draws air into the venting ducts and filters it by some type of filtering device which is built into the whole home air purifier. Air is then circulated back into the home as fresh and clean. A whole home air purifier is usually installed by a licensed person as it doesn’t just plug in.

The maintenance is the second most important factor to consider in your home air purifier. How easy is it to clean and keep up? You should also ask how long the warranty is good for. Will you need to ship it anywhere should it need repair? These are some very important factors to consider.

One of the biggest problems affecting health around the world is asthma; part of this concern is the increasing number of young people who are being diagnosed with the condition. Although it is treatable, asthma is still a chronic condition which affects the function of breathing of every person who is affected by it. This is a respiratory condition that when not treated properly can easily result in death, if the attack is not attended to in time or is severe.

One of the most important steps for an asthma sufferer is keeping a constant check on their condition. The specific medical treatment depends on the severity of the condition and the frequency of symptoms and specific treatments for it are broadly classified as:

*Preventative medications

*Treating minor attacks

*Treating serious or life threatening attacks

For short term relief for all patients Bronchodilators are recommended but those with occasional mild attacks need no other medication; this form of medication is the one that many asthmatics will only ever need.

Patients with mild but frequent attacks have other medication available to them like a leukotriene modifier or a mastcell stabilizer. Additional medication is required, as the seriousness of the asthma condition increases. Whatever the level of severity they experience all sufferers have a traditional reliever to aid them. The asthmatics condition by careful monitoring should not be difficult to identify exactly what it is that is an attack trigger. This means that attacks can be avoided if not eliminated altogether. Medical science has now confirmed that the poorer the air quality increases the odds of this and other related respiratory problems occurring.

Medications available over the counter and from the doctor can be very useful but should not be relied upon; if used on a regular basis they can cause serious side effects , including:

*Constantly fatigued

*Dizziness

*Impotence

*Feelings of despair

*Damage to the liver

Increasingly patients with respiratory conditions are opting for more natural remedies that do not have side-effects. These are formulated to treat the condition and not the effects. Every attack weakens the body’s system a little as it becomes hyperactive where the task of the catalyst in medication is to calm and soothe this hyperactive system. Natural medications provide natural organic catalysts to the body that restore balance in the system and thereby eliminate all the symptoms without any side effects.

Breathing techniques such as pranayam, buteyko and yoga practices are also helpful to asthma sufferers as they naturally help the breathing and the general well-being of patients. Drugs can leave residues which complementary therapies do not and the immune system can be strengthened by nutritional supplements. The main focus however, should be on the asthma patient learning to control their own condition.

For someone suffering from asthma allergy, it is beneficial to have an idea of what exactly this condition entails, and ways you can prevent it from having a negative effect on your life. Depending on the person and what has caused the asthma, an asthma allergy can vary from a mild attack of asthma to a more severe attack of asthma. A severe attack of asthma is characterized by a difficulty breathing, with lack of oxygen in the lips and extremities.

Often the best way to treat an asthma allergy is to have a checkup by a trained medical professional such as a doctor. A doctor can run a series of tests to confirm if you have an allergy that causes asthma. Then the doctor can choose the best course for treatment.

The best type of medication for the treatment of an asthma allergy involves a substance, which is able to decrease the inflammation of the lining of the respiratory system. Some of these medications function by decreasing the production of other chemicals, which cause inflammation and narrowing of the lumen of the bronchi and bronchioles. It is important to seek help quickly so this type of medication can be administered quickly in the event of an acute asthma attack.

Even with medications for treating an asthma allergy, it is still a good idea to remember that prevention is always better than cure. Therefore, it is a good idea to stay away from any of the chemicals and substances, which cause you to have an asthma attack.
